Ashtree Marine is a small company, but, we pride ourselves on punching above our weight in the data technology and boat telemetry market.
The Origin Story
Our yacht wasn’t winning races.
To find out why, we looked for some software to help us analyse our performance. The crew mostly worked in IT in one way or another and that was our go to solution for most things.
We found that although there were a lot of sophisticated chart plotters on the market there didn’t seem to be anything that would allow us to carry out that kind of classic data analysis we did as part of the day job.
What we wanted to do was drag the data out of the Navigation and GPS system and manipulate it in a analysis tool like Excel.
It didn’t sound that hard so why wasn’t anyone doing it?
Some time later…
In the late 2010’s we found ourselves running a business and technology consultancy. This gave us the opportunity to start developing the solution we needed ourselves.
We began reading up on NMEA data standards and before long the concepts that lie behind Rockit started to come together.
A number of years hard graft and a lot of burning the midnight oil, what you see described on these pages was ready to take to the battle field that is big boat racing.
Each year the data collector evolved, and Ashtree Marine was setup to make the data collector software available to a wider audience.
