Overview
As part of out COVID Lockdown activity we looked at ways that we could make it easier to install and run Rockit.
We came to the conclusion that there would be value in developing a dedicated Rockit Server device that could be run on the target boat. This would remove the need to install the complex software that Rockit requires, it would be installed by default on the Rockit Server Device.

We wanted to create a device with the Rockit Server that could be picked up and taken home on the train. Something that would give the user the ability to connect the device to a home network and analyse the information they have collected whilst sailing on a bigger screen…. ideally with a nice glass of wine.
It was pretty obvious to us early in the development process that running complex analysis needs a bigger screen than we could provide in the marine environment.
So there are two ways that you can run Rockit. On a Rockit Server device; a version that runs on the Rockit Server and records information from the source boat and a more an equivalent version version that runs on a Windows computer.
At the end of 2022 after much searching of the internet we came to the conclusion that in the short term it wasn’t viable to build the Rockit Server Devices in volume. We were struggling due to the worldwide shortage of computer chips. We could get them in small quantities but they were expensive; in some cases 10 times the price they were in 2021. So we decided to put our energy into supporting the Laptop/Desktop installation of the Rockit Software.
3 years later the world has moved on and we now find ourselves in the position to finally release the Rockit Server devices.
We have two versions;
- Rockit Server Model 1 – the original Wi-Fi based concept from 2020
- Rockit Server Model 3 – an enlarged version with a built-in NMEA 2000 port so the device can be connected direct to your boats NMEA 2000 network.
Rockit software comes pre-installed on the Rockit Server devices.
We are also releasing a version of the software for Windows. This software will be more or less identical in functionality terms to the software on the Rockit Servers. This section details how to install/configure the Rockit software on a laptop or desktop computer.
For the more advanced user you can connect the Windows versions of the Rockit software to the backend running on a Rockit Server.
