Race, Review and Progress

Rockit is an independent unbiased observer of your sailing endeavours.

You’ve planned your boat setup, you’ve tested everything and taught the crew how to use the boat.

You’ve practised all your moves and are working really slickly as a team.

Nows the time to put it all into practice.

We record where you go on the race course and how fast you go there. Each manoeuvre is tracked, recorded and displayed so you can see how wide you left the leeward mark…… and how much ground you lost on the spinnaker drop .. or didn’t relative to last time.

You can augment the recorded track with information about the sails in use at any given point in time making it possible to build effective cross over charts for sails .. and more importantly find out which sails are actually fast.

You can cross reference that with the information from the boats play book and validate the information record there… does the boat sail faster with the genoa car at setting 2 with the No 1 Jib in 10knots of breeze compared to car setting 3 ?

Suitable for Beginners and Data Experts alike

We want to make Rockit easy to use. One click to start recording one to stop.

Rockit will track and aggregate your measurements as you race, creating summary data that combines new information with existing values. This helps to give a clear picture of a boat’s performance. Plug and play with a laptop or tablet, on or off board, to analyse your results in the best way for you and your crew.

Analyse every move your boat makes and develop new strategies.

Build up your skills at analysing your racing performance with our multi-level software package. Already a data buff? You can dig down into the details. Not so hot with tech? Our easy-to-use platform is the perfect introduction to racing analysis, helping you hone your insight and develop your boating instinct.

Understand and Innovate

We want to put some more data science into sailing

You know roughly where you want to be and you know what you think you should change to go faster. But how do you prove that it has actually made a difference ?

Rockit is designed to record the data that your boat produces and show you where you are fast or faster; and more importantly slow. So you can innovate and objectively test those innovations.

OK so consider the following;

  • How do you work out whether the sails you have are still performing optimally ?

  • How do you know if you are going the optimal way around the race track each weekend ?

  • Have you got you boat trimmed optimally - need to shift weight forwards or backwards ?

  • How much of a benefit might I get from spending money on a snazzy set of cascade blocks for the backstay ?

  • Whats the cross over point for my sails - in the real world ?

  • Am I getting anywhere near to the target boat speeds my designer said I should ?

Does the boat go faster when everyone is on the rail keeping the boat dead flat or is a little bit more heel a benefit .. and if so how much.

 Plan and design

We want to help you get the most out of your sailing season.

So where do you start ?

First you build a profile for you boat. You use the Rockit software to record the key measurable pieces of configuration about your boat.

The sails, the crew and their the roles, boat config information such as the weight whether you have the liferaft on board or a carrying the bear minimum for round the cans racing and so forth.

You can create multiple profiles for the same boat so you can test what-if scenarios out on the water.

Once you have recorded the key configuration information for the boat you can go sailing. Rockit will record the performance data about the boat as you sail so you can see the impact of any changes you’ve made.

Train and record

Practice makes perfect. Its all about the hours on the water and how you use them.

As you train your crew Rockit learns about how your boat performs.

It uses the information from the boats onboard navigation systems to analyse how the boat responds to each change in wind speed, direction and the way the boat is configured at that time.

The number of data points that Rockit can record are infinite. You can define any number of custom items to track in addition to the standard NMEA data points from the boats onboard sensors.

Click on the button below to see the full list of data items that Rockit will record.

So How Does Rockit Work ?

We have been refining Rockit for the last 8 years, so we think we have a product that will meet most sailors needs.

Rockit will connect to the NMEA instrument systems on your boat and collect the data that drives the system displays.

Rockit stores the data values alongside the date, time and location the information was collected.

It then combines the information to allow you to compare values for a given recording session.

You can then supplement the boats instrument data with observations of your own. For instance you can record the sails you are using and plot those against the performance information from the instrument systems.

This gives us the ability work out exactly what point it becomes most effective to swap from one sail plan to another.

 Our Product Options

We tried to keep it simple.

Buy a copy in year one with maintenance,

Keep your software up to date and get the opportunity to pick our brains by buying maintenance in subsequent years.
